A first year BCom student of Gujarat College was allegedly ragged by four seniors on Saturday. The victim, Pawan Tiwari, lodged a complaint with the Ellisbridge police after the college authorities showed no interest in taking any action against the youths.

A source said that Tiwari, who passed out from Gayatri Vidhya Vihar School, had got admission in FY BCom at Gujarat College and that Saturday was his first day at college.

According to case details, Tiwari was waiting for his next lecture when four youths entered the classroom and asked him why he was sitting alone in the class. They then asked him to walk around like a professor and do a catwalk while undressing. Later, they even assaulted Tiwari and misbehaved with him.

When Tiwari said that he would complain about the incident to the college principal, the youths threatened him of dire consequences, claiming that they were hostel students.

Despite the threats, Tiwari went to the principal's office to complain about the incident, but the peon said that the principal was not in office. He also asked Tiwari to register a complaint at the concerned police station.

The Ellisbridge police have registered a non-cognizable offence in this regard. PI JB Gadhavi said, "We will ensure that a detailed investigation is done in the case." Gadhavi also said that the anti-ragging squad based in different colleges will also probe the case. College principal GS Rao said he would look into the matter on Monday and take appropriate action.
