The Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) has found proven gas reserves of 10.8 trillion cubic feet (tcf) in 11 of the 15 wells drilled in the Deendayal block of the KG basin in Andhra Pradesh, said Saurabh Patel, minister of state for energy & petroleum.  He said that once all the wells started functioning at full capacity, Gujarat will get Rs10 crore-worth of gas every day for the next 30 years. Patel was speaking during the question hour on the first day of the state assembly session.

In reply to a question about the investment made so far in the exploration activity in the block, Patel said that, so far, Rs3,850 crore had been invested and a further investment of Rs7,000 crore to Rs8,000 crore would be made to develop the block and get the fuel to Gujarat.

Around Rs1,700 crore will be spent on an offshore platform, Rs700 crore on an offshore sub-sea pipeline, Rs1,400 crore on an onshore gas processing plant and Rs2500-3,000 crore on drilling of development wells. He added that the GSPC had tied up with RIL Infrastructure to bring the gas to Gujarat using RIL’s pipeline network.

GSPC, a Gujarat government company, has drilled 15 wells in the Deendayal block which has an area of 1,850 sq km. Three of the 15 wells have failed to yield anything while testing is yet to be done in one well. The remaining 11 wells have been successful, Patel said.

The minister further said that the GSPC had submitted on June 18, 2009 a block development plan (BDP) for the Deendayal block to the Director General of Hydrocarbons (DGH). After receiving approval from the DGH, it would be possible to bring gas to Gujarat in two-and-a-half years. Incidentally, the DGH has so far certified 1.3 tcf gas in the Deendayal block of the KG basin.
