Though efforts have been made in the past by prominent builders to develop the tallest building of Gujarat in Ahmedabad, their plans fell flat because of the denial of governmental clearances or the lack of funds.

But if everything goes as planned, the city will have a 50-storey building on the Sardar Patel Ring Road. A city-based developer, Calica Construction & Impex Private Ltd, is planning to build the skyscraper near Science City. Company has already got notification from the board of approval, SEZ, and will launch the project on Sunday. “We have already initiated the process for getting the necessary permissions and hope that everything will be in place by the time the work is started,” said the director of Calica Construction & Impex, Bipin Shah. The company expects that the project will be over by 2012.

The 50-storied building is planned as part of the second phase of the project. The total estimated cost of the project with both the phases is Rs650 crore. It will house information technology companies willing to operate in the special region coming up on around 11 hectare area.

“The firm has already tied up with various banks for Rs300 crore required for the first phase. We may go for an initial public offer (IPO) for the second phase that will require Rs350 crore and will include the Ahmedabad’s tallest building,” said Shah. Shah is counting on number of small and medium-sized IT companies for the success of the project. “We are willing to provide as small as 7,500 square feet to small companies,” he said.
