After the allotment of seats led to massive unrest not only in Congress and BJP circles, but anger spilling on to the city streets and outside the respective party offices, the Mahagujarat Janta Party (MJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is busy devising strategies trying to reap maximum benefit from the infighting.

While the MJP has fielded 225 candidates, 221 candidates from the NCP will face the ballot battle in all the six municipal corporation elections in the state.

Displaying confidence by opening accounts in all six municipal corporations, the general secretary of NCP Gujarat, Mahipal Patel said, "We have given mandate to many ward-level BJP leaders, who have not been allotted tickets from their party. We know that we are a small party in the state, but looking at the internal conflicts in both the BJP and Congress, we are confident that we will be winning in minimum 10 seats in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation election. We will definitely mark our presence in all other municipal corporations too by winning at least a couple of seats everywhere."

Patel further said, "We tried to talk Congress into joining hands for this elections. We had demanded only 11 seats in the AMC.
However, the Congress leaders couldn't give us a reply. Thus, we decided to field 85 candidates in the AMC. Our national leader Praful Patel, is also coming to campaign for the polls. We have given mandate to many BJP ward leaders. We have fielded Arun Sharma and Dinesh Soni, both BJP workers for Dudheshwar ward in the AMC election."

The general secretary of the party, Sunil Oza said, "The reason behind the formation of MJP is autocracy and demotion of morale, besides injustice to the party workers. Now BJP supporters are also feeling that there is no differentiation between the Congress and the BJP - a fact that is paving the way for the MJP to come up as the third alternative to them. Our party wants to work for the people of Gujarat without any autocracy."

He further said, "With even ward-level party workers raising their voices against autocracy in the BJP, it has now been proved that autocracy exists in the party."
