Gujarat high court asks govt why HN Chavda has still not been suspended

A division bench of the Gujarat high court asked the state government on Monday to find out why HN Chavda, prime accused in the dummy writers case, has not been suspended or no disciplinary action taken against him. Chavda is allegedly absconding.

In the high profile case, two students belonging to important families of the city, were caught faking fractures in their hands to take the help of dummy writers in the HSC examination.

The crime branch, which is the investigating agency in the case, submitted on Monday a status report on the scam. At this, the chief justice of the Gujarat high court asked the government pleader why the state government had not initiated any disciplinary action, including suspension, against Chavda.

Chavda, who is DEO of Anand district, has been on the run ever since he was made an accused in the case by the crime branch. He was secretary of the Gujarat secondary and higher secondary education board (GSHSEB) when the incident took place.

Komal Patel and Harsh Kotak, children of prominent builders of the city, were caught using dummy writers during the Class XII examinations held in March 2008.
