Gujarat has all the reasons to become a leading tourism state in India, feel eminent personalities of the industry. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) organised a seminar titled Gujarat Tourism Conclave 2010, on Thursday, in Ahmedabad.

Minister of state tourism and health & family welfare, Jaynarayan Vyas, who was the chief guest of the event, said, “Tourism growth in the state will overshadow industrial and agricultural growth. Business, leisure and medical tourism will take Gujarat to the forefront.”

Gujarat, with required resources like air connectivity, infrastructure and others, has tremendous potential to grow in the tourism sector.  Most people present on the occasion felt that with the availability of facilities such as medical experts and chains of major hospitals  in Gujarat, the state is emerging as a wellness hub.

Many felt that health tourism is a sector which should be tapped. Industry people, thus, strongly feel that there is a need to merge hospitality and hospital industries to provide better facilities to the patients. PK Mohankumar, COO of Gateway Hotels, said, “We want to become a service enabler for the patients. We are exploring opportunities for building up synergistic benefits in Gujarat to promote health tourism.”

Jyotsna Suri, MD of the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group said, “Gujarat has huge untapped reserves for tourism with Dholavira seen to be an emerging one.”
