On the second day of their indefinite strike on Friday, doctors of government medical colleges enacted a skit on the state government on the campus of BJ medical college in an attempt to mock at it. Some 2,000 doctors of government-run hospitals and medical colleges across the state are on an indefinite strike since Thursday to demand UGC pay scales.

Throu`gh the skit, the doctors tried to depict the state government and its departments as a person who suffers from some kind of problem and the doctors try to diagnose the problem. They examine to know if it is a hearing impairment or psychological problem, but finally they settle the diagnosis as neurological problem.

Said a striking doctor:  "The state government does not listen to us so we assumed that it is suffering from hearing impairment. Furthermore, it is not ready to understand our problem, so we thought it is suffering from psychological problem. In the end, we concluded that it is facing neurological problem as it can't hear, understand or solve the doctors' problem for three years."

The doctors complained that they have been demanding UGC pay scales for the past three years. They submitted a memorandum to the state government earlier this month.  This is the seventh time in three years that the doctors have submitted memorandum with their demands.

Because of the indefinite strike, the studies of hundreds of undergraduate and postgraduate students were affected. While on Thursday there were no classes, on Friday   the resident doctors conducted the classes.

About the future course of action, secretary of Gujarat Medical Teachers Association, Dr JC Makwana, said: "The third day (Saturday) of the strike will be celebrated as black day, where we all will be wearing black clothes to show our opposition to government inaction."

Dr Makwana warned that if their demands were not met soon, they will get the 700-odd doctors of municipal hospitals to support them.
