Gujarat chief justice moots quick disposal of cases

Chief justice of Gujarat high court, justice SJ Mukhopadhaya, on Friday stressed the need for quick disposal of cases while cautioning that "justice hurried is justice denied".

Inaugurating the three-day West Zone Judicial Conference on 'Enhancing Timely Justice: Strengthening Criminal Justice Administration', justice Mukhopadhaya stressed the need for delivery of justice after taking into account all aspects of fact and no one should feel disgruntled with the judicial system.

The conference is being held under the aegis of the Gujarat high court, Gujarat State Judicial Academy and National Judicial Academy at Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) from March 26 to 28.  Mukhopadhaya also stressed the need of amendments in judicial system, particularly in acts and laws as most of the acts and laws were enacted before Independence. Acts like Indian Evidence Act of 1872, Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860 are some of the examples.

The justice also pointed out the biggest challenge Indian judiciary is facing  today. He said that a large number of cases are pending in various courts, including metropolitan courts, district courts and high courts.
