From the next academic year, there may no more be any difference in the syllabus of schools running under the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as far as classes IX to XII are concerned.

A group of expert teachers from schools affiliated to the GSHSEB is studying the syllabi of the two boards, with the aim of eliminating the differences between the two.

A source said that a report on the differences in mathematics taught by the two boards has already been submitted to the GSHSEB authorities, while reports on the other subjects are in the final stages of preparation. In the case of mathematics, the experts were unable to find any major differences between the two syllabi, the source said.

“The mathematics syllabi of the two boards are of an equal level. Only some minor differences were found between the two. The GSHSEB syllabus seems to match that of the CBSE,” a member of the group of expert teachers said on the condition of anonymity.
A source said that these reports will be sent to the ministry of human resource development in New Delhi. According to Hansmukh Adhia, chairman of the GSHSEB, the central government is planning to equalise the syllabi of all education boards in India.

The ministry of human resource development has formed a committee to study the differences between the syllabi of the different state boards across the country, he said.
