"I was expecting my suspension. My actions would have led to this, which I believe is apparent," said IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who was suspended by the government on Monday night.

Claiming that he was suspended for filing the affidavit in the Supreme Court about the alleged role of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots, Bhatt said his suspension was a 'silly' decision taken in a hurry.

"The sole purpose of suspending me is to rattle me, which they think will weaken my battle against them. That the decision was taken in a hurry is evident from the fact that I got another letter from the state government on Wednesday fixing my reporting headquarters as Sorath Chowki, Junagadh," he said.

Besides discussing with his lawyer, IH Saiyed, his next move challenging the suspension order in the "proper forum soon", Bhatt expressed the confidence that the ground for his suspension was "utterly baseless and would not stand scrutiny in any court of law."

He said that he had chosen the police service over other central services like Indian Foreign Service. Coming back to his suspension, Bhatt said that the government's "crash" suspension order was inspired by the belief that "if you take away his uniform, he will be crippled". "But I don't feel crippled. I am no different now than I was with the uniform," he said.

When asked if he had been expecting his suspension, Bhatt nonchalantly shrugged. "It could have happened but I had not given it much thought. Ever since I filed the affidavit in the Supreme Court, I have detached myself from such developments. I am just doing my job," he said.

Bhatt said the establishment was clearly petrified after he disclosed clinching evidence of the reports leaked by the SIT to state government officials. "I have lots of incriminating documents which can nail the Modi government. The whole genesis of the Godhra attack can be established. It is upto an appropriate agency to get the information out of me," he concluded with a sigh.
