Facing teething problems in implementing the Right To Education Act, the government will embark upon a consultation process with stakeholders across the country from next month.

The first meeting will be held on August 14 in which all issues pertaining to implementation of the law will be discussed, HRD minister Kapil Sibal told reporters here.

"There are many issues in implementation of the RTE law. We are meeting the principals and all the stakeholders on August 14 to find out the problems and discuss the way out," he said.

According to Sibal, a series of consultative meetings will be held across the country to sort out the issues on implementation of the new law which makes education a fundamental right of every child in the age of six to 14 years.

The law has been in force since April one. However, the states are facing problems in implementing certain provisions of the law.

The minister was critical of the incidents of corporal punishments being reported from different parts of the country.

Asked about the alleged suicide of a girl student in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh after being reportedly made to clean toilets by the school authorities for being unable to pay fees, Sibal said the ministry will get the facts on the incident and ask the board concerned to take appropriate action.

He criticised a Bangalore school for issuing circulars which said implementation of RTE will lead to admission of poor students and the presence of poor students could affect the psyche of other students.

Sibal denied reports that there was any proposal to have a brand ambassador for the ministry's adult education programme.

"There is no proposal yet to have any ambassador for the education programme," he said.

Sibal said British universities are keen to collaborate with India in its initiative to start Innovation Universities. The government wants to set up 14 Innovation Universities, each on a specific theme.

A team of university vice chancellors and representatives from the UK will come to India in November to take forward the process of collaboration, he said.
