Govt takes all contamination incidents seriously: Prithviraj Chavan

'A minor incident at the BARC which was detected on May 11 wherein the liquid samples spilled on the hands of a person leading to contamination,' minister of state in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan said.

The government today said it takes all incidents of radioactive contamination very seriously and has reported the spillage of chemicals at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to the relevant authorities.
           
"A minor incident at the BARC which was detected on May 11 wherein the liquid samples spilled on the hands of a person leading to contamination," minister of state in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan told reporters here.
           
Chavan said the matter was detected promptly and the person who carried the radioactive samples in a sealed container was adequately decontaminated and cleared for normal work.
           
"Tests were carried out on the person concerned and no higher radiation levels were detected on his person," he said, adding that the incident of a very minor nature with no safety consequences.
           
Chavan said the government has taken the incident very seriously and it has been recorded and reported to relevant authorities.
