Govt engineer shot dead

A 35-year-old government engineer has been shot dead by two motorcycle-borne men here, police said today.

Manoj Kumar Singh, an assistant engineer with Flood Division in neighbouring Kushinagar, was shot at by the two men in area under cantonment police station last night, police said.

Singh was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said.

The engineer, who hailed from Azamgarh district, was staying in the city and had gone to meet one of his superior in Mohaddipur when the incident took place.

Police said a row over the allotment of some contract was suspected to the cause behind the killing.

Senior police officers, including Gorakhpur DIG Anand Swaroop, rushed to the spot.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on into the case, police said.
