Gorkhaland: Darjeeling tripartite pact signed

The government had earlier directed the home ministry to sign an agreement with the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha and West Bengal government.

The historic Darjeeling tripartite pact was signed on Monday between Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, West Bengal government and centre for Gorkhaland Territorial Administration in Darjeeling.

The GTA accord was signed by West Bengal Home Secretary GD Gautama, GJM's Roshan Giri and Joint Secretary, MHA, KK Pathak.

P Chidambaram and Mamata Banerjee who were present at the occassion, said centre and state government will completely back GTA.

The government had earlier in the day given its nod for the creation of an autonomous Gorkhaland calling celebrations all over the hills, while the Left Front announced boycott of the pact.

It has directed the home ministry to sign an agreement with the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) and West Bengal government.
