A key witness in the Naroda Patiya case of post-Godhra riots today identified former minister in the Narendra Modi government Maya Kodnani, one of the accused in the case, before the court and alleged that she saw her fire from a weapon.

Amina Abbas Belif, while deposing before a designated court of Judge Jyotsna Yagnik, alleged that Kodnani had also instigated the mob to attack the minority-dominated area.

Narrating the chain of events that led to the death of 95 persons in Naroda Patiya area on February 28, 2002, Amina said that she had got ready for work early in the morning that day when she saw huge crowd with weapons near their colony.

The witness, who works as a security officer in a company, told the court that she was dressed in khakhi that day.

Amina claimed that she saw Kodnani arrive in a white car along with her assistant from a corner of Noorani mosque. "They talked to some people in the crowd who were pointing towards the minority dominated area," she said.

Amina said since she was dressed in khakhi people thought she was from police and that was the reason she could go near the crowd and hear what Kodnani said.  She further told the court that Kodnani allegedly fired from a revolver like weapon and then left in the same white car.

Recalling the incidents Amina said that after Kodnani left she called the police on '100' and a female voice assured her that help was on the way. "But the help never came," she told the court.

The witness said she later called up Naroda police station which was answered by one K K Mysorewala, who told her that he was on leave on that day.

Amina also told that the court that Mysorewala sounded drunk on the phone. She said that while she was in Jawaharnagar area she saw her son allegedly being killed by a mob near Mahavir hall there.

Amina also told the court that she saw another accused in the case Bipin Autowala allegedly fire from his garage. She said that when she returned to her colony she saw that the State Reserve Police personnel had broken into the houses and were "looting" valuable ornaments.
