After chief minister Narendra Modi and Jaydeep Patel, the Supreme Court- appointed SIT has now summoned Nalin Bhatt, the then general secretary of BJP, Gujarat, in connection with the post-Godhra riots.

Bhatt told DNA that he has been summoned and will have to reach the SIT office in Gandhinagar on Saturday afternoon. "I have been called because I was the general secretary of BJP during the 2002 riots," he said, however, refusing to divulge further on the exact reasons of summon.

A source in the SIT said Bhatt has been summoned in connection with allegations levelled by Zakia Jafri in her complaint lodged with the police, naming 63 people, including Modi, as accused in 2002 carnage. Bhatt had declared a bandh on February 27, 2002. He will therefore be interrogated about the massacre at Gulbarg society.

Bhatt had left the saffron party to act as a co-ordinator of Pundit Dindayal Seva Sangarsh Samiti. As the BJP general secretary in 2002, Bhatt had also filed an affidavit before the Nanavati Commission probing the post-Godhra riots.
