Goa MP Shantaram Naik has urged the centre to send a team of experts to investigate three 'mysterious' explosions that took place along the state’s southern coast on February 10.

The residents around the coast had reported three explosions around 12.30 pm on February 10 in Canacona taluka. The district administration had confirmed the reports but could not ascertain their source.

Naik, in a letter to union home minister P Chidambaram today, has urged to send a team of experts to examine the explosions. These explosions should not be overlooked in view of bomb blast in Pune," the letter said.

"Since Goa has been one of the prime targets of terrorists for sometimes now, investigations have to be done to find out whether the explosions reported on February 10 were result of the targets missed by the terrorists,” he said.

Naik said that it was surprising that no state level agency could throw light on the mysterious blasts. The defence ministry has to take the incident seriously given that its Sea Bird Project in North Kanara District adjacent to Canacaona Taluka is a sensitive area, he added.

He said that if the blasts are part of tests done by Sea Bird authorities, it should be disclosed, as otherwise, in case such blasts occur again, people would take it as being a part of Sea Bird exercise.

Goa police teams along with district administration officials had scouted the entire South Goa coast to ascertain the source of explosions but in vain.

The State government had said that there were no claims of damage after the explosion and had stopped the investigations.
