Gandhinagar municipal commissioner CR Kharsan presented the first-ever draft budget of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) before the standing committee on Thursday. In the draft budget of around Rs15.75 crore for the year 2012-13, the commissioner has proposed collection of only sanitation tax from residents and no other tax.

Kharsan submitted a revenue surplus draft budget of Rs15.75 crore for 2012-13 to standing committee chairman Pravin Patel. Proposing to collect Rs60 per household per annum as sanitation charge, the commissioner expects revenue generation of around Rs52 lakh.

Moreover, he said that the civic body has prepared Rs12 crore project for door-to-door solid waste collection which was submitted to the state government for approval. The project will started as and when the permission is granted. The commissioner has expected Rs14.30 crore as grant including Rs12 crore in lieu of octroi from the state government. He has also estimated income from professional tax to reach Rs50 lakh instead of last year's recovery of Rs20 lakh. He has also estimated non-tax revenue at Rs85.39 lakh.

The GMC has allocated Rs10 lakh for fire-brigade, Rs1 crore for solid waste containers, Rs2 lakh for fogging machine, Rs10 lakh for creating facilities in crematorium, Rs20 lakh for mobile toilet and Rs5 lakh for renovation of rangmanch. Moreover, Rs1.5 lakh has been earmarked as grant to corporators for providing three benches per corporator.

Of the total budget of Rs15.75 crore, Rs8.96 crore has been set aside for revenue expenditure in 2012-13. The estimated property tax of Rs12 crore is still pending with the state government and so it has not been included in the budget proposal. The standing committee will make additions to the budget on February 4, 2012.
