Patients in government hospitals and health centres in Rajasthan will get most essential generic medicines free of cost, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said today.
The ambitious 'Chief Minister's Free Medicine Scheme' was launched by Gehlot at Dausa district hospital on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
He also launched the scheme in Sawaimadhopur and Karauli districts.
In the first phase of the scheme, 200 types of commonly used medicines will be made available through counters set up in hospitals and PHCs.
Additional 200 types of medicines will also be made available by January next year, Gehlot told a public meeting in Dausa.
To execute the free medicine scheme, the state government has set up 13,874 distribution centres across the state to distribute the generic medicines.
Rajasthan Medical Services corporation has been set up to execute the scheme.
Gehlot said Rajasthan Public Service Guarantee Act 2011 which was passed recently to ensure time-bound delivery of public services of government departments will be implemented from November 14.
