Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), in collaboration with the newspapers section of International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), will organise a four-day IFLA International Newspaper Conference 2010 at IGNCA, New Delhi, from February 25.

Newspaper librarians and archivists from India, Finland, Australia, the US, the UK, France, Sweden, Germany, South Africa, Singapore, Bangladesh and other parts of the world will participate in the conference with the theme ‘Digital preservation and access to news and views’.

Ramesh C Gaur, librarian and head of the Kala Nidhi division at IGNCA, said the conference would provide a platform to Indian media librarians to exchange ideas.

The latest research, technical innovations and business developments in preservation and dissemination of historical and contemporary news and newspapers would be discussed at the meet. Of particular interest would be the latest developments in digitisation of historical newspapers.

This was the first time, Gaur said, the international newspaper libraries conference was being held in India. Since problems and issues concerning media libraries are hardly discussed in the country, he said, this was a golden opportunity for Indian media librarians to expand their horizons.
