Former Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy, who floated his own outfit All India NR Congress, after quitting from the territorial assembly and Congress, today called on AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence.

An AIADMK release described it as "a courtesy call".

AIADMK party treasurer O Panneerselvam, headquarters secretary KA Sengottaiyan and NR Congress party general secretary V Balan, state secretaries N S J Jayapaul and N Gnanarajesekaran were present during the meeting, the release said.

Rangasamy represented Thattanchavady assembly constituency since 1991 to 2006. He was the chief minister from 2001 to 2006 and 2006 to 2008.

He was ousted from office in August 2008 following a year long opposition against him by his ministerial colleagues then.

The present chief minister V Vaithilingam, who was among the ministers who were up in arms against Rangasamy, took over the reins of state affairs in September 2008.

Rangasamy resigned his assembly membership on January 20 and launched All India NR Congress on February 7.
