Former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal laid to rest

The 81-year-old leader's body, wrapped in tricolour, was brought in an open truck from his Hisar residence to Mandi Adampur where shops and commercial establishments were closed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

The body of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal, who died in a hospital following a massive heart attack, was buried today in his native town Mandi Adampur, near Hisar, as per traditions of the Bishnoi community.

The 81-year-old leader's body, wrapped in tricolour, was brought in an open truck from his Hisar residence to Mandi Adampur where shops and commercial establishments were closed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Besides Lal's family members including sons Kuldeep Bishnoi and Chander Mohan, Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia, chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and a host of leaders attended the last rites of the two-time chief minister.

INLD president Om Prakash Chautala, Haryana assembly speaker Kuldeep Sharma and senior Congress leader Birender Singh were among those who bade tearful adieu to the departed leader.

Earlier in the day, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Union minister Kumari Selja paid their last respects to Bhajan Lal at his Hisar residence.

A Bishnoi is buried according to the traditions of the community.

The last of the three Lals of Haryana - Bhajan Lal, who formed the trio with two other former Chief Ministers Bansi and Devi Lal - died yesterday in a local hospital.
