Fog engulfs Chandigarh, affects flight movements

A thick blanket of fog engulfed the city this morning throwing normal life out of gear and affecting flight movements here.
    
As visibility levels dropped below 600 m, Jet airways had to cancel its morning Delhi-Chandigarh-Delhi flight while Kingfisher airlines flight from Delhi to the city was delayed by over three hours, airline officials said.
    
Dense fog also enveloped many areas in Punjab and Haryana, MET officials said, adding Adampur and Halwara in Punjab and Ambala and Sirsa in Haryana had zero visibility in the morning.
    
"We are expecting the foggy conditions to prevail in the region until tomorrow after which fog should clear," Chandigarh's MET director, Chattar Singh told PTI.
    
He said the fog had slightly pushed up minimum temperatures in the region, but added the temperatures will fall once the fog clears.
    
The minimum temperature at Chandigarh was 13 degrees Celsius, two above normal while the low at Ambala was 11.6 degree Celsius, up by a degree.
    
In Haryana, Hisar recorded a minimum temperature of 15.6 degree Celsius, up by five degrees, Karnal had a low of 13 degree Celsius, up by one degree while the minimum temperature at Narnaul was 14 degree Celsius, two above normal. The low at Rohtak was 11.7 degree Celsius, up by a degree.
    
In Punjab, Ludhiana registered a low of 12.1 degree Celsius, one above normal while the low at Patiala settled at 12.6 degree Celsius, up by two. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 9.8 degree Celsius, one degree above normal.
