Five Naxalites arrested in Gumla in Jharkhand

Gumla (Jharkhand): Five activists, including a self-styled zonal commander of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), have been arrested during raids in Gumla's Mandaria Toli village, the police said today.

The raids were launched last night after getting a tip-off that these five rebels were meeting in the village, the superintendent of police, Narendra Kumar Singh, told newsmen here.

The police caught Viswanath Ganju alias Visleshanji, the TPC's self-styled zonal commander, Johnson Ekka, Sanjay Minz and Abas Ekka during the operation, he said and added two rifles, a country-made pistol, four bullets, two handsets, TPC letter-heads and a diary were seized from them.

The TPC is a breakaway group of the CPI (Maoist) and is engaged in a turf war with the Maoists in the area for the last couple of years.The Gumla SP said Visleshenji was facing ten cases in Latehar's Balumath police station.

In a separate incident in Palamau district's Baraun village, the ultras of Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC), another breakaway group of the CPI (Maoist) today set fire to a crusher machine of a private contractor.

According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Braj Mohan Paswan, about twenty JPC activists poured petrol on the machine and set it on fire after the owner, Santosh Singh, refused to pay alleged ransom of Rs10 lakh.
