Five persons including two women were killed and ten others injured when a lorry rammed into the auto-rickshaw, in which they were travelling, in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh this afternoon, police said.

The road accident took place on the outskirts of Narketpalli town in Nalgonda district at about 2.30 pm, when a lorry hit the auto in the rear side after the auto-driver suddenly took a right turn, they said.

"The auto was overloaded. Three persons died on the spot and two others died while undergoing treatment. The condition of two among the 10 injured remains critical," a senior police officer said over phone.

"The auto-driver took a sharp turn though the lorry-driver tried his best to avert hitting the auto, but was unable to do so," the police official said based on preliminary investigation.
