Five persons, including an army jawan and a policeman, were injured when they allegedly fiddled with an unexploded shell in Budgam district of central Kashmir, a police spokesperson said today.
The five persons, who had gone to Tosa Maidan, a tourist spot, for an excursion, found the unexploded shell at Yechebal Bahak near Khag, 50km from here, last evening.
The injured were airlifted to the army hospital in Srinagar.
The device exploded when they were fiddling with it, injuring jawan Jahangir Ahmed Para (24), Irfan Ahmed Dar (22), working in the police telecom department, Mohammad Younis Para (20) and Sajad Ahmed Para (22), both students, and Zahoor Ahmed Dar (30), a shopkeeper, all residents of Larkipora, the spokesperson said.
