Fire engulfs commercial complex in Kanpur, no casualties

A major fire broke out on Tuesday in a four-storeyed commercial complex in Mall road area in the industrial city of Kanpur destroying woollen clothes worth lakhs of rupees.

A major fire broke out on Tuesday in a four-storeyed commercial complex in Mall road area in the industrial city of Kanpur destroying woollen clothes worth lakhs of rupees.

However, there were no casualties, police said adding firefighters were still battling to douse the leaping flames.

Initially, the blaze was reported in the second floor of the building, a private commercial complex, in the morning, ADM (City) Shailendra Singh said adding it was extinguished by the fire department.

At around 5pm, the fire started again and quickly spread to all the floors of the building, the ADM said.

Shopkeepers used this complex for storing woollen clothes meant for sale during the winter season, he said.

There were no reports of any casualty, the ADM said adding woollen clothes worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the blaze.
