With the declaration of class XII science stream results,  young minds are deciding which field to pursue. Most seem set on engineering or medicine. There are hardly any interested in taking up pure science.

Looks like the present batch is more attracted towards a career in applied science.

This time the trend suggests that students are preferring career options like mechanical engineering, computer science, electronics and communication.

Of the total students of the city who scored A1 grade, majority said they wanted to pursue mechanical engineering. Medicine was the second favourite.

A scorer of 99.98 percentile in class XII science, Priyanka Makwana said, "I want to become a doctor. That is the reason I opted for B group subjects (physics, chemistry, biology)."

Explaining why pure science is not fancied, a parent Prakash Shah said, "It all depends on interest of the child.
Also, pursuing only BSc won't help in giving you a decent job. The student has to pursue MSc for two years more. So, it takes five years for the career to take off. Some opt for PhD and research work. Instead, students prefer to opt for four years of engineering and land up in good firm with decent pay."

When a group of students were asked why they were not keen on pure science, majority of them replied that they were not interested in research work but wanted a fast growing career.
