Father murders 11-year-old daughter in Kanpur

Disturbed over his wife leaving him, a man allegedly strangled his minor daughter to death in Govindnagar area in Kanpur, police said today.

Jai Singh, a resident of Gujaini, murdered his 11-year-old daughter yesterday night after she went to sleep, circle officer of Govindnagar police station Balwant Chaudhary said.

Singh, who survived by doing odd-jobs, was disturbed after his wife left him for spending money on alcohol. Their daughter was left in his care and was often beaten by him, Chaudhary said.

The father was reportedly drunk when he returned home yesterday night and shouted at the girl. Her dead body was discovered by neighbours in the morning, police said.

The father is absconding, Chaudhary said, and the girl's body has been sent for postmortem.
