A faction of the Bhartiya Kisan Union today threatened to launch an agitation in Punjab next month to mount pressure on the state government to fulfil their demands.

The demands included release of Centre's package for farmers and productivity bonus on electricity bills, the BKU (Rajewal) said in a release here.

Farmers would assemble here on September 20 to protest non-fulfilment of their demands, it said adding they would be forced to launch an indefinite stir if the attitude of the state government remained unsympathetic.

The BKU (Rajewal) has been demanding release of Rs800 crore Centre’s package for farmers in view of drought last year.

Earlier this month, farmers under the banner of BKU (Rajewal) had agitated for three days in the city.

They suspended the stir after the Punjab government constituted a committee to look into their grievances.
