If a group of people claiming to be from the Government of India (GoI) knocks at your door, you know it's time to get cautious. The five persons arrested on charges of posing as GoI representatives from New Delhi, have reportedly duped three industrialists in Vatva GIDC alone. There also exists the possibility that such gangs may be duping people in other states across the nation.

According to BM Rana, Vatva GIDC police station SI, the gang had duped Mahalaxmi Industries of Rs20,000, and S Chemicals and Pina Chemicals of Rs5,000 each, in the recent past. Rana, who is investigating the case, said that they have 'GoI' printed on their car's number plates, and forged letterheads and visiting cards.

Subhash Singh Rajput, Rajesh Shukla, Samu Shukla, Jawahar Sharma and Ashok Parmar, along with their drivers, had been caught by the Vatva GIDC police on Thursday last week. Besides these five, there also are a couple of others involved in the crime, who reportedly supplied the visiting cards, letterheads and other tools to the gang. These 'assistants' are still at large.

This gang used to walk up to companies' offices and threaten owners with dire consequences for 'violating' various norms. The industrialists, taken aback at the accusation, would normally pay the money demanded by the gang. However, last Thursday, a city-based industrialist turned the tables on them, when  50-year old Atul Shah, a resident of Satellite, informed the police about the gang.
