In a desperate bid to escape arrest, a fake cop asked real cops to show their ID cards! However, when the authentic men in khaki asked him to show his ID, he claimed to be a CID officer, 'who do not carry cards to remain undetected'. The trick, however, did not work and the fake cop was nabbed red-handed.

On Thursday evening, one Kuldipdinh Rajput, 22, went to Poornima Guest House on Relief Road, and asked the manager to show the visitors' register. Rajput identified himself a Punjab CID officer, and threatened the manager, one Jayesh Pandey, 27, for not maintaining a register as per the law. Rajput told Pandey that he would seize the register and shut the guest house, if the latter did not accompany him to the CID office near Lal Darwaza.

Later, the fake cop, sensing his ploy had worked, demanded Rs30,000 from Pandey to 'forget' the issue. Rajput, a native of Delwara in Rajasthan, finally settled for Rs10,000, of which he had collected Rs3,000 from Pandey, and informed the owner of the guest house to hand him the remaining amount. The owner sensed something was amiss and informed the Kalupur police about the 'raid'.

When he saw the real cops, Rajput tried to escape, but was caught.
