Blurred police jurisdiction adds to the troubles of the traders of Gandhi Road who have been facing harassment by local criminals. The jurisdiction of Khadia police station and that of Kalupur police station are not clearly marked out in the area.
Because of this whenever there is an untoward incident here, traders have to run between the two police stations to lodge a complaint.
According to the traders, shops in the lane leading to Bala Hanuman temple on Gandhi road till the Khadia crossroads fall within the jurisdiction of Khadia police station. But, strangely, when their owners step out of the shops, they are in Kalupur police station's jurisdiction.
Explaining their difficulties when they are threatened or attacked by local criminals, Jagdishsingh Khalsa, vice-president of Gandhi Road traders association, said goons had been taking advantage of the confusion caused by blurred police jurisdiction.
"The problem is that when we are sitting inside our shops, we are in the jurisdiction of Khadia police station but the criminals who threaten us from outside our shops, stand in Kalupur police station area. The police should sort out this issue immediately because goons are taking advantage of it," said Khalsa. Gandhi Road traders had protested on Saturday against extortionists like Manish John, Viju Body and others. On Sunday, they took out a peace march from Gandhi Road to Kalupur police station to complete formality of a complaint that they had lodged a day earlier. Khalsa alleged that the criminals had the protection of some local politicians. On Monday, the traders will protest near Bala Hanuman temple against harassment by goons. They said they will give a call for indefinite bandh if police fail to act.
