A truck carrying more than 200 kg of explosives has been seized from a remote part of the district and two persons were arrested in this connection, a top police official said today.

Acting on a tip-off, Special Operations Group of the local police seized the truck carrying eight quintals of ammonium nitrate and nearly two thousand detonators from Gohania, 40 km from the city, late last night, deputy inspector general of police Braj Bhushan told reporters.

He said the two occupants of the truck, Tribhuvan Patel, an unauthorized dealer of explosives, and Pappu, the truck driver were arrested by the SOG team.

During interrogation of the duo, it came out that they were involved in  trade of the explosives which are in great demand in Allahabad's trans-Yamuna region and adjoining districts on account of the thriving business of stone chips in these areas, he said.

The DIG claimed that prima facie, it did not appear that there was any "ulterior motive" behind the duo bringing the explosives from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, though further investigations were on as "the quantity of explosives seized
this time is unusually large".
