One man and three buffaloes died of electric shock at Rander in Surat in early hours of Tuesday morning.

The buffaloes died after coming in contact with a live electric wire, while Dhaaya Bharwad, the owner of buffaloes, died after he got an electric shock trying to save the  animals.

Despite the deaths, officials of Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited, (DGVCL) have not taken any action against the maintenance contractor.

According to information, Bharwad who was engaged in selling milk had taken his buffaloes for grazing near his residence.

The buffaloes tripped on the wires which were on the ground after the stormy weather which uprooted the electric pole.

The animals died on the spot due to the electric shock. The electric current was so strong that it killed Bharwad on the spot too who tried to save his buffaloes.

Locals in the area on seeing the dead animals and Bharwad informed the 108 service. He was taken to new civil hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

After the incident, officials of DGVCL have been silent on the issue. Repairing work has started after the incident and according to sources, the maintenance contract of the electric lines was given to one Ayub Memon.

Despite his gross negligence, no action was initiated against him by the officials.
