Fenil Garange, an eight-year-old kid, died when he drowned in a swimming pool at Goyal’s Water Park in Sanand. Garange fell into the 5.5 feet deep swimming pool through a water slide.
“The kid died as there was no one to spot him gliding down the water slide. There was neither a life guard, nor a security guard on the spot,” Sandip Indrekar, a victim’s relative, told DNA.
Indrekar, an eyewitness to the incident, told DNA that all of them were at the sea-waves area when Garange slipped out of sight. “Few minutes later, he was found dead in the nearby swimming pool,” he said.
According to other eyewitnesses, all the life guards of the water park were near the sea-waves area, but there was none to monitor the other swimming pools when the mishap occurred. “The kid, left behind by the parents, had gone to a water slide nearby without anyone noticing him,” a police source said.
The relatives and the water park authorities are putting the blame on each other for the death. However, police have yet to take any official note of the incident. An official of Sanand police station told DNA that police had nothing on record about the incident.
The authorities at the Goyal’s Water Park told DNA that when the kid was fished out from the swimming pool he was alive. The life guards tried their best to save the boy. But, his condition was not good and he had to be rushed to the Sanand Civil Hospital.
Garange had a brother Ronish and sister Vini. His father, Vasu Garange, is a lawyer at the metropolitan court. The family was on a picnic with friends when the incident occurred at around 2:15 pm, on Monday.
As soon as Fenil was declared dead, people vent out their anger on the water park’s staff. The water park authorities then called up police to visit and control the situation.
