Eight killed in separate militancy-related incidents in J&K

SRINAGAR: Eight persons, including five militants of the banned Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and LeT outfits were killed and two policemen injured, while two civilian hostages were rescued from ultras in separate incidents across Jammu and Kashmir since Saturday night.

 

Hizbul militant Mubashar Ahmad was killed in an encounter with security forces during search operations at Dadaran-Kulgam in Anantnag district, a spokesman said.

 

The militant was hiding inside a mud-house and had taken two civilians hostage who were rescued by security forces before they engaged him in a gunfight.

 

An AK rifle, two magazines and seven rounds were recovered from the possession of the slain militant, the spokesman said.

 

Security forces killed another Hizbul militant Mohammad Yaseen Pathan in an encounter at village Dunadoo in Pulwama district on Saturday night. One AK rifle and some ammunition were recovered from him.

 

Two LeT militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces at Kasblari in Poonch district on Saturday night, he said, adding that one of the slain ultras has been identified as Saiful Rehman while the identity of his associate is being ascertained.

 

Recoveries from the site of the encounter include two AK-56 rifles with its six magazines and 36 rounds, one pistol, one radio set and two pouches, he said.

 

In another encounter, a Pakistani militant and an Indian security personnel were killed at Mathori in Doda district on Saturday night. 

 

An AK rifle and some ammunition were recovered from the slain ultra who was identified as Abu Khalid of Sialkote.

 

Meanwhile, militants of Harkat-ul Jehad Islami killed a civilian Mohammad Mumtaz Pathan in Fatan Ahlan Godale village of Anantnag district on Saturday night.

 

A fruit-seller Farooq Ahmad Guru, who was injured along with another civilian Aijaz Ahmad Pandit in a militant firing at Bandipora on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries at the Soura Medical Institute on Sunday, the spokesman said.

 

Two police personnel, including a Special Police Officer, were injured when militants exploded an Improvised Explosive Device and opened fire on a patrol in Kulgam area of Anantnag district on Sunday, the spokesman said.

 

Constable Abdul Hamid and SPO Abdul Majid were hurt when the ultras set off an IED and opened fire targetting a police patrol at Kantipora village in Kulgam, he said.

 

The police party fired back but the ultras managed to escape. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

 

The condition of both the police personnel was stated to be serious, official sources said, adding that a hunt has been launched to nab the militants.
