Following reports of water seepage into a strong room where EVMs of two constituencies in this district are kept, the Election Commission today said the electronic voting machines would be checked this evening in presence of the candidates.

The EVMs of Sarojini Nagar and Mohanlalganj constituencies are kept at a room in Government Polytechnic. The candidates of these areas had yesterday demanded from the poll panel to inspect EVMs after water seeped inside the room.

Taking note of the incident, EC observers Asim Khurana and Arvinder Singh visited the room in presence of the candidates and later told reporters that EVMs would be checked.

"The seal of the strong room will be broken and EVMs kept there would be checked in presence of the candidates," the observers told reporters.

The candidates yesterday created a scene after they came to know that water had entered inside the strong room.

It came to the light that the water tank on the roof of the room overflowed due to which water entered the room.

The candidates, however alleged foul play and raised question mark over the need for filling the tanks when EVMs were kept there.
