Due notice taken of minister's Azadi remarks: Omar Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today said due notice has been taken of controversial remarks made by minister Sham Lal Sharma and appropriate action would follow after analysing contents of his speech.

"As far as the minister's remarks are concerned, due notice has been taken at appropriate quarters," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

"Please allow them to examine not only the statement but also the content (of the minister's speech) and after that whatever is to be done will be done.

"I am sure whatever action needs to be taken, if deemed necessary, will follow," the chief minister said.

The health and horticulture minister, belonging to the Congress, had stoked a controversy when he said at a rally on Sunday that Kashmir be granted "Azadi", Jammu should be made a separate state and Ladakh be given the Union Territory status.

The remarks, made at a rally in Kathua district in the presence of PCC head Saifuddin Soz, had embarrassed his party which termed these as his personal view.
