In your next trip to Shanghai in China, you can shop for some beautifully embroidered kurtis, skilfully created by rural artisans working for ‘Hansiba’ the premium brand of SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre (STFC). If everything goes well, Hansiba will soon be displayed at Chung To’s outlets at Shanghai shopping mall. Hansiba is the premium brand of the rural women artisans of STFC.

With the new deal China will become the 11th country apart from India where Hansiba products will be marketed. Chung To, who worked with a bank in China, is the founder of Chi Heng Foundation working for AIDS prevention among high-risk groups. Chung To, who visited SEWA in Ahmedabad, was impressed by the variety of hand work embroidery. “I have already booked two shops at a shopping mall in Shanghai. I intend to start an outlet there,” he said. “So, just before coming to STFC’s annual general meeting I thought of taking along hand embroidered work to China so that I can display and sell them at my outlet,” Chung To told DNA.

Interestingly, he himself was clad in a white embroidered kurta by Hansiba.
He said the hand work embroidery products will be a success in China as it has a cosmopolitan population that prefers ethno modern products. Elated by Hansiba’s yet another foray into a new market, chairperson of STFC Reema Nanavaty said it is good that people in China would get Hansiba. “Chung To is mainly interested in readymade embroidered garments and home decorative pieces by Hansiba,” said Nanavaty.
