A director of an eye hospital, Dr Deepak Mehta, has filed a complaint at Shahibaug police station stating that three patients had obtained disability certificates forging his signature — and using a fake stamp of a reputed institute. The eye hospital is associated with Ahmedabad Civil Hospital from 2008.

In his compliant, the doctor has alleged that three patients, Unnati Barot (21), Jignesh Goswami, (23), and Shilpa Patel (23) obtained forged disability certificates from the hospital. Last week, the police registered a complaint against the trio under sections 465, 467, 468, 471, and 114 of the IPC.

Surprisingly, the doctor came to know about this incident only when Palanpur police station officials came to investigate the case registered with them. A police team had visited the hospital few days before the doctor registered his complaint.
In the complaint filed with the Shahibaug police, Palanpur police officials first visited the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) to probe the case. They came to verify the original record of the hospital; whether the said patients were treated at the hospital and were granted the disability certificate by the authorities. During investigations, they found that the handwriting of the trio matched the signature on the certificate.

Palanpur cops then met Mehta to further investigate the matter. It was only then that the doctor realized that his signature was forged. Mehta then lodged a complaint that he had never met these patients, adding that, the photo on the certificate bearing the stamp of MNJ Institute and Civil Hospital were forged and fake.
