DMK MP held on land grab charges

The Chennai police on Wednesday arrested DMK’s Lok Sabha member JK Ritheesh Kumar on a land grab complaint. “He was arrested early morning in Chennai and taken to Kanchipuram,” said a senior police officer. The actor-turned-politician, representing Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency, was arrested on a complaint from Samikannu of Kanchipuram district.

Samikannu had alleged that Kumar had grabbed his 1.47-acre land using forged documents. Kumar is the first DMK MP to be arrested on land grab charges.

Since the AIADMK government came to power in May, many DMK leaders have been arrested on similar charges. Former ministers K Ponmudi, KN Nehru, Veerapandi Arumugham and others were arrested on land grab charges by the state police.
