Devotees throng temples for annakoot

According to Vaishnav tradition, annakoot is organised on the day following Diwali, said Kanu Bhagat of Swaminarayan Gurukul at Memnagar.

Thousands of devotees thronged temples on Sunday for the darshan of annakoot. Barring Iskcon temple that will organise annakoot on Monday, majority of temples in the city had the festival on Sunday.

According to Vaishnav tradition, annakoot is organised on the day following Diwali, said Kanu Bhagat of Swaminarayan Gurukul at Memnagar. He said that about 5,000 devotees visited the temple on Sunday.

On the occasion, we prepare special annakoot containing more than 100 items, said Golok Vihari Swami of Swaminarayan Temple, Kalupur. Iskcon has organised Govardhan puja on the New Year day.

Dhananjay Dasji of Iskcon said the temple would build Govardhan (mountain) of sheera, a sweet made of suji, ghee, sugar and milk. The Govardhan will be three and a half feet high and its diameter will be around 4 to 5 feet, he said.
