A ward where infrastructural development is starkly juxtaposed with a lack of basic amenities, Nava Vadaj is quite a study in contrasts. Although the locality boasts BRTS connectivity, a swimming pool, a gymnasium and a library among other things, resident say that there are problems aplenty. Insufficient water supply, sanitation issues, water logging, traffic problems and cattle menace, are the main issues that plague the ward.

Two incumbent corporators, Hemakshu Patel and Ramesh Desai (RD), have been able to gain important posts during the last five years. Patel is a member of the AMC's standing committee, while Desai was the leader of the ruling party in the AMC between October 2005 and April 2008.

It is believed that Patel and Desai can't stand each other, and have divided the ward into boundaries. On her part, woman corporator Meena Pandya stands no chance, as her seat is now reserved for a SC candidate. The caste equation will play a key role in this ward. Apart from the Patels, the Brahmins and Jains will also play a major part in influencing results. Still, both parties are likely to select a male candidate from the Patel community.
