‘Develop Gujarat as a knowledge-based society’

Says Kalam while addressing the ongoing Chintan Shibir in Kutch on Saturday.

Former president of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, on Saturday addressed some of Gujarat's top movers and shakers including chief minister Narendra Modi, ministers and key policy makers (IAS officials) of the state in the sixth annual Chintan Shibir organised by the state government at Dhordo village in dessert of Kutch.

Earlier Kalam accepting CM Narendra Modi's invitation to address the policy makers of the state who are deliberating for shaping a future vision of the Golden Gujarat, was all praise for Gujarat's development-centric environment.

In his motivational speech, Kalam asked the state administration to achieve socio-economic development vision-2020 for Gujarat. He told the state's babudom  that they have got great chance to fulfil expectations and dreams of the people of state. "Gujarat has tremendous scope of development and the administration too has great capability to achieve it, which needs to be tapped," he said.

Stating that 21st century Gujarat has inspired to be a knowledge-based society, Kalam urged that the state needs to focus on knowledge-driven development. He asked the state's administration to focus as a mission on "agriculture-based rural economy'' and "PURA Project'' for the creation of a "knowledge-based society".

He suggested many new ideas for agriculture and water revolution model for the state and better usage new technologies for the welfare of the people. Modi and other senior officials asked Kalam various questions on the "Gujarat PURA Mission" idea. Dr Kalam praised Gujarat's efforts for announcing solar power mission and use of green energy technology.

Golden Jubilee goals discussed '50 Golden Jubilee Goals Programme' was released and discussed in the Shibir by Modi. While giving a deadline for achieving these goals, the CM also guided the officials for achievement of a three-tier method of reaching the goals and achievements.

Modi set the deadline for achieving the 50 goals between January 1, 2010 and January 1, 2011 and also asked all department heads and secretaries to provide effective leadership to achieve the target. In morning all the officials attended Yoga and Pranayam sessions and during the day discussed new development experiment and best e.governance practices.
