Delhi sizzles at season's highest 44.1 C

Today's maximum shot up by 2.7 degree Celsius from yesterday and was five degrees above normal while the minimum was recorded at 28.5 degrees, three degrees above normal and up from previous day's 27.7 degrees.

A severe heat wave gripped Delhi today with the mercury shooting up to the season's highest of 44.1 degree Celsius.

Today's maximum shot up by 2.7 degree Celsius from yesterday and was five degrees above normal while the minimum was recorded at 28.5 degrees, three degrees above normal and up from previous day's 27.7 degrees.

The maximum this season had earlier soared to 43.1 degree Celsius on May 12.

The weatherman predicted no relief from the oppressive heat for tomorrow and said the mercury is likely to be around 44 deg C. The minimum could be 28 deg C.

The humidity oscillated between 19 per cent and 68 per cent, the MeT department said.

"It was a horrible day. We did not experience such heat this season. The humidity was also high," said Krishna Murti, a software professional, said.

Last year, the maximum had touched 45.4 deg C on May 18, the highest in the past 10 years for the month. The record maximum for May was 47.2 deg C recorded on 29th of the month in 1944.
