Delhi shamed again: 77-year-old woman raped

Less than a week after a Delhi University student was shot dead by her stalker outside in broad daylight, a 77-year-old woman was beaten up and raped by a rickshaw-puller in Rohini area of outer Delhi on Sunday.

Around 100 rickshaw-pullers were being questioned in connection with the rape, but no arrest had been made till the time of going to press on Sunday night.

A passerby found the lady badly-bruised just a few metres from a police station. “The victim had gone to her sister’s on Saturday afternoon and was returning home,” a police officer said.

“The victim said the accused took a different route and took her to Japanese Park area, where his rickshaw overturned. He then picked up a quarrel with her. She offered more money and asked him to rush her home, but he attacked her, made her smell some chemical and raped her,” he said.
