A Delhi government school, which witnessed a stampede killing five girls, will reopen on
September 29, after a long break of more than two weeks.

Earlier, the school was closed for four days after the incident happened but later authorities decided to extend it considering the tense situation prevailing in the area. "The school will reopen on September 29 after the holidays for the festive season are over," a senior official of the Education Department said. The holidays for the festive season begin tomorrow.

Five girls were killed and 34 other students, including a boy, were injured in the stampede in the school last week when they were trying to make their way up and down a narrow staircase after being asked to shift classrooms during an examination.

The official said some students were still in trauma after the incident and that is why authorities decided against reopening the school.

Meanwhile, Deputy commissioner of Northeast Delhi TC Nakh, who was asked by Delhi Lt governor Tejinder Khanna to conduct a magisterial probe into the stampede submitted the report to the government today.

There were conflicting reports about the events which led to the tragedy, ranging from rumours about electric current passing through accumulated rainwater and boys misbehaving with girls.
