Delhi metro today registered nearly 40% jump in its ridership during this festive season, thanks to heavy rush due to 'Bhai Duj' festival.

A total of 6.92lakh people travelled in the new-age transport system, till 8 pm this evening generating a revenue of Rs96.06 lakh, which is an increase of nearly Rs50lakh as compared to that of yesterday, a day after Diwali, a metro spokesman said.

Around 3.94 people took the metro till 8pm yesterday generating a revenue of Rs46,59,06,000lakh to the DMRC.

Delhi metro also opened extra ticket counters and deployed additional staff at important stations like Rajiv Chowk, Yamuna Bank, Janakpuri and Dwarka.

Last year on 'Bhai Duj', the number of passengers had increased by 46% compared to normal days.

As a result of increase in frequency, a total of 1,417 train trips ran today, which is an addition of 89 trips.
