The Delhi High Court today asked a lawyer to apprise it of specific violations by the sports federations of the Centre's policy fixing the tenure of office bearers including President of such bodies.

"We direct the petitioner to point out the specific instances where the rules are not being followed," a bench headed by Acting Chief Justice AK Sikri said.

The court, which has fixed the matter for hearing on February 22 next year, was hearing the PIL, filed by lawyer Rahul Mehra alleging the elections in various sports bodies were being held without following the guidelines which led to a situation where candidates contest for more than two consecutive terms.

"People like VK Malhotra and Suresh Kalmadi have created and protected their fiefdoms in sports. This is a malice that has been affecting Indian sports for so many years. There are people with deep-rooted vested interests who should be moved out of the federations...," Mehra said.

He also said while Kalmadi is a life member of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) cricketer Kapil Dev is not even a member of Haryana State Cricket Association.

"Do we need an Anna after 10 years to cleanse the system"? he said.

"How long will the courts keep on interfering with such matters," the bench said and asked the petitioner-lawyer to file his submission within two months detailing specific violations by sports bodies.

Earlier, Additional Solicitor General AS Chandhiok had informed the court that the Centre has framed a policy modifying earlier policies "whereby the tenure of the Members and the President of various sports associations have been fixed and that is to be followed by all concerned."
